Sarah Jane Custer was born in Ohio March 12, 1844, and died at Bonaparte, Iowa, October 21, 1908, being sixty four years, seven months and nine days old. She came to Iowa with her parents at the age of about seven years where she grew to womanhood. She united with the Baptist church at Harrisburg when quite young and has ever lived a consistent Christian life.

She was married to Horace A. Hamlin Oct. 15, 1866, and to this union were born eight children, four sons and four daughters. The husband, a daughter Elsie and son Rex preceeded her to the better life.

Those left to mourn their loss are Frank J. of Keokuk, Fred A. of Fairfield, Mrs. Lydia Haven, John and Laura of Bonaparte and Mrs. James Green of Farmington. Also three brothers and one sister besides a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at two o’clock Friday afternoon at the late residence. Rev. Trenerry of the Baptist church officiating, with interment in the Bonaparte cemetery.
