Herman Lydolph

Last rites for Herman Lydolph, 87, well known resident of Helena, Montana, were held Monday afternoon at Helena, the Rev. Emil Zeigler of the First Lutheran church officiating. Interment in I.O.O.F. cemetery.

He was born in Germany April 21, 1857, and came to Iowa when he was seven years old, making his home on a farm north of Bonaparte. He was a brother of the late Ernest Lydolph.

He went west, locating in Helena before the city government was established. In 1902 he moved to Canyon Creek, Montana, and in 1910 became head gardener at the state capitol. In 1913 he went to work for the state vocational school and in 1923, he retired, locating in Helena.

He was united in marriage Dec. 23, 1883, with Frances Ann Short, daughter of one of Helena's pioneer families. She died in 1905. He is survived by a stepson, Robert Short, of Claypool and one daughter, Mrs. Millegan. His other daughter, Mrs. Chad Spaulding, died two years ago.
