Hudson Gilchrist

Hudson Gilchrist was born November 28, 1881, in Walkerville, a suburb of Butte, Montana. He was the eldest son of David and Margaret Gilchrist. His early life was spent in Anaconda, Montana. When he was nine years old the family moved to Iowa where they made their home on their farm in the bend between Keosauqua and Vernon. His early schooling was in the Lippincot school in this neighborhood. Later he attended high school in Keosauqua.

In 1905 the family sold their farm and went west again, this time settling in the Gallatin Valley near Belgrade, Montana, where they engaged in farming.

Hudson was married August 28, 1907 to Della S. Green of Manhattan, Montana. To this union four children were born, Paul who died in infancy, Grace, now Mrs. Roy Allsop of Belgrade, Montana, Miriam, now Mrs. Elmer Quanbeck of Shepherd, Montana and Lee, a student at Montana State college in Boseman.

For the last twenty-five years, Mr. Gilchrisst has been a carpenter and many of the finest buildings of Bozeman attest his superior workmanship. During this time he has maintained the family home at 214 South 8th Ave., Bozeman.

Besides his wife and children, Mr. Gilchrist is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Witt of Bridger, Montana, and Mrs. Bessie Anderson of Oakland, California, also three brothers, Edgar of Bozeman, Alex of Butte, Montana, and Don of Highland Park, California. His parents and three brothers, Fuller, Frank and Kirk preceded him in death.
