Mrs. Maria Liddle

Liddie(?) Maria Walker was born May 16, 1867 in Jefferson County, Iowa, where the greater part of her life has been spent. She departed this life December 20, 1935 at her home at Keosauqua, Iowa.

She was the daughter of the late Jonathan and Annie Moulden Walker.

She was united in marriage to Thomas J. Liddle in February 1905. One child was born to this union, a son, Thomas ., Jr., who has always lived with and cared for his mother.

She and her husband established their home in Cropsey, Ill., when they were first married, living there until the fall of 1924 when her husband, Thomas J. Liddle passed away. She and her son returned to Jefferson County, Iowa, where they have since resided until about two years ago when they moved to Van Buren County.

She was baptized into the Methodist church when a young woman and lived a true Christian life. She was a home-loving woman, a devoted companion to her husband and son. She was a dutiful daughter, a faithful wife, a kind and indulgent mother and a devoted and loving sister. Her greatest pleasure was to minister to others; no sacrifice was too great for her to make. She was always cheerful under difficulties. Well may it be said of her: "She has done what she could."

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; four brothers, Michael, Willie, R.B. and Dave Walker and two sisters, Susan Campbell and Lizzie Degood.

She is survived by her son, Thomas J. Liddle, Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Best, of Los Angeles, and one brother, Thomas L. Walker, of Abingdon, Iowa, besides many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She will be greatly missed by all, as to know her was to love her.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 22nd at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Batavia in charge of Rev. M.E. Hayes, pastor of the Keosauqua Methodist church. Interment was at Batavia.
