STANLEY RUSSELL CRAIG

Stanley Russell Craig, son of David and Elizabeth Craig, was born near Mt. Sterling August 3, 1906, and passed away at the home of his mother in Keosauqua March 4, 1940, aged 33 years, 7 months and one day.

When a senior in high school he moved with his parents to Keosauqua where he graduated from the Keosauqua High school in the class of 1926. Following his graduation he worked on different farms in the community, and was known as a dependable, trustworthy workman. He loved the outdoors and one of the regrets of his long illness was his inability to be at work.

Shortly after his father passed away four years ago Stanley’s health began to fail and he was forced to give up his work. Each year for the last four years he has had to return to the Iowa City hospital for a course of treatment but whatever relief he was received was only temporary and his condition grew steadily worse.

Stanley was a good boy, an earnest Christian and loved by all who came to know him. During the time of his illness he has suffered greatly but was always patient and uncomplaining and deeply appreciative of every kindness shown to him.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Craig, of Keosauqua and two sisters, Mrs. Anita McIntosh of Oelwein and Mrs. Bruce Strait of Keosauqua, besides a number of other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. C. H. Orf were held from the Burnett Funeral Home in Keosauqua Wednesday afternoon, March 6, 1940. Burial was in the Prall cemetery.
