Joseph Beeler

Joseph Beeler, son of John and Hannah Beeler was born on a farm in Lee county, May 28, 1844, and passed away at his home near Lebanon, Thursday night, Nov. 26, aged 92 years, 5 months and 29 days.

When only a small child he moved with his family to what was then known as the Emerick farm near Lebanon. He attended the district school at Lebanon, going three months during the winter and some winters not finding time to go at all. In 1862, he went to Garden Grove, Iowa, and learned the black smith trade.

Mr. Beeler enlisted as a soldier in the Civil War in 1864 from Garden Grove. He was a member of the 3rd Iowa Cavalry and took part in many battles and was with Sherman on his march to the sea. After the war ended in 1865, he returned to Garden Grove to continue his trade.

In 1875 he returned to Lebanon to make his home. He was united in marriage with Grace Warner of Lebanon, July 4, 1884. To this union three children were born, Stanley and Joe Beeler of near Lebanon, who survive his passing. He was preceded in death by his wife and one son, Rex.

There are three grandchildren, Joe, Nancy, Ellen, and Norma Beeler.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Lebanon church, in charge of Rev. Charles Fix. Interment was in the Lebanon cemetery.
