Mrs. Harry Jones

Capitola Blackmer Jones was born at Bonaparte Sept. 6, 1882, the eldest of three children given to Dr. Benjamin and Colusa Blackmer, and died in her home at Ft. Madison Monday, April 6, 1936, at the age of 53 years and 7 months, after an illness of more than a year.

She was graduated from the Bonaparte high school and the Gregg Business School of Chicago, and taught school three years in the vicinity of Bonaparte, later acting in Bonaparte as assistant principal in the high school.

She was devoted to music, and taught both instrumental and vocal music as long as her health permitted.

On June 21, 1905, she was united in marriage to Harry R. Jones at Davenport, Iowa. Later they settled at Hillsboro, moving to Farmington in 1910. They resided in Farmington 21 years, moving to Ft. Madison in 1931.

At the age of 13 she united with the Bonaparte Presbyterian church. She was active in church work both in Bonaparte and Farmington.

At the age of 18 she became affiliated with the Order of Eastern Star, was a past Worthy Matron, and a charter member of the White Shrine of Keokuk.

Mrs. Jones was prominent in civic affairs, beonging(sp) to the Political Science club of which she was a charter member; the Delphians, Chautauqua Circle, Cemetery Association, Ladies Aid, Embroidery club, Women's Missionary Society, and numerous other organizations.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Walter Neafie of Des Moines, and Mrs. John Hols of Keokuk, and one sister, Miss Benna Blackmer of Chicago, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Bonaparte Presbyterian church in charge of Rev. Robert G. Alexander at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 1936. Interment in Bonaparte cemetery.
