Ray Dhority

MORAVIA - Ray Dhority, 88, of Moravia, died Feb. 6, 2004, at the Monroe Care Center in Albia.
He was born July 1, 2004, in Cantril to Elmer and Josephine (Jones) Dhority. He married Katherine Easter on Aug. 28, 1935, in Princeton, Mo.

He graduated from Cantril High School in 1932. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Bonaparte, New London and Geneseo, Ill, where Ray worked at the local newspaper offices. They purchased the Moravia Union in 1949 of which he was editor. He was a 50-year-plus member of the Moravia Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Booster Club & Fire Department, all of Moravia, as well as the Iowa Press Association. Ray also farmed.

Surviving are his wife; daughter, Janet Schneider of Albia; son, Gary Dhority of Moravia; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Letha Horn.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Moravia Funeral Chapel with Pastor Geneva Parsons officiating.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today (Monday) with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. and the family will be present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Moravia First Responders or the Monroe Care Center.
