Martha Holtkamp

BONAPARTE - Martha H. Holtkamp, 84, of Hillsboro-Bonaparte area, died 10:20 p.m. Feb. 29, 2004, at the Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua.

She was born Sept. 14, 1919 to Hans Peter and Johanne Ida Katherine Lorenzen Rasmussen at Ada, Minn. She married Richard J. Holtkamp Aug. 16, 1941 at Ada, Minn. He preceded her in death April 27, 1985.

She was a long time resident of the Hillsboro-Bonaparte area. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Houghton. Martha was a homemaker, caregiver, cooked many meals and cleaned for friends near her home. She enjoyed reading, loved to garden and was waiting for spring.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Giberson and her husband Lance of Keosauqua and Sharon Reno of Burlington; two grandchildren, Richard Giberson of Waukeska, Wis. and Shari Spilman and husband Don of Ottumwa; great-grandson, Chase Spilman, sister-in-law, Agnes Holtkamp of Fort Madison; and several nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Otto, Reinard and Gunnard; and sister, Clara.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John 's Catholic Church, Houghton with Father Dennis Hoffman officiating. Burial will be at St. John 's Church Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Wednesday with a 7 p.m. Christian Vigil Service at Link Funeral Home, West Point and the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

A memorial is being established for local community rescue service or Marquette Schools.
