BONAPARTE - Sylvia Cole Sampson, 90, of Bonaparte died at 3:20 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004, at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua.
She was born June 24, 1913, at Leon to Elmer and Anna Hansen Boyd. She married Roy Cole and they divorced. She later married Gerald Sampson June 24, 1955, at Kahoka, Mo. He died May 20, 1995.
She worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Burlington, Barkers in Keosauqua, Universal in Fairfield, the Bonaparte glove factory, Tharp's and Brass Rail and had been manager of the V.F.W., all in Keosauqua, and owned and operated Town and Country Tavern in Cantril.
She was a past member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Surviving are seven sons, Virgil Cole of Keosauqua, Ralph and Roy Cole, both of Montezuma, LaVene and Richard Cole, both of Newton, Lloyd Cole of Santa Fe, N.M., and Harold Cole of Reardan, Wash.; a daughter, Vicki Sampson Lane of Stockport; three stepsons, Gerald (Bud), Eddie and Michael Sampson; two stepdaughters, Anna Marie and Wanda; 41 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and 56 great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Clyde, Ray, Harl, Francis, Gerald and infant twins Lloyd and Floyd Boyd; two sisters, Ruby Shaw and Aletha Folker; a daughter, Arlene Cole Gaskell; four granddaughters; and three grandsons.
The service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Keosauqua United Methodist Church, the Rev. Ellis Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Greenglade Cemetery, Farmington.
Visitation will open at 2 p.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with family present from 7 to 8 p.m.
Memorials to Greenglade Cemetery or American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 12548 Unicorn Ave., Stockport, Iowa, 52651.
