In 1868, he being 13 years of age, came with his parents to Iowa and settled in Birmingham. In 1875, at the age of 19 he went to California where he spent four years. He returned in 1878 and in 1879 made two trips to Kansas in a prairie schooner. On the second trip he was accompanied by his parents and settled on a homestead in Jewell county. In the winter of 1879 he again returned to Iowa where he was united in marriage with Miss Mary M. Spees and settled on the old Miller farm east of Birmingham where they resided almost forty years. Leaving the farm he came to Birmingham.

Mr. Miller was a member of one of the best known families in the vicinity. He was a successful farmer, and always took active interest in all the affairs in the community, having served as president of the bank, and was a member of the school board for 26 consecutive years. In spite of his retiring years, he retained an active interest in the happenings of the day.

He is survived by his devoted wife, and the following children: Mrs. Jurena Wittlesey, Albert C., Charlotte M. Quay and Mrs. Ethel Johnston, all of Farmingham, and Rose S. of Ottumwa. Also eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive him.

Funeral services were conducted at his home Sunday at 2 P.M. by the Reverend F.M. James, and burial was in the Maple Hill cemetery. A large and sympathetic crowd was in attendance, for everybody in the neighborhood thought well of Mr. Miller and his family.
