Mary J. Cavitt

Mary Jane, daughter of James and Mary Brown Wiley, was born in St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 19, 1852, and departed this life, Sept. 25, 1935, at her home in Home Prairie neighborhood, at the age of 82 years, ten months and six days.

Nov. 23, 1875, she was united in marriage with William Cavitt to which union six children were born, namely, Mrs. Gertie Alexander of Mt. Sterling, Iowa, Lee, who died in infancy, Jesse, at home, Mrs. Harold Avery of Roseville, Calif., Clyde of Los Angeles, Calif. and Earl of Cantril, Iowa. Her husband died Jan. 20, 1929.

Mrs. Cavitt was a firm believer in the Saviour (sic), lived a quiet unassuming Christian life. In her last illness she had the constant care of her granddaughter, Mrs. Grace Brewer. Besides her surviving children she leaves two brothers, R. W. and J. H. Wiley, sixteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three nephews and two nieces to mourn her departure.

Funeral service was conducted at the home by Rev. F. M. James of Cantril Sunday and burial was in the Pratt cemetery. All survivi8ng children and nearly all relatives were present at the service. Mrs. Avery came from California to be present.
