OBITUARY OF MARTHA JANE THOMPSON

Martha Jane Duncan was born near [?]etcher, Miami county, Ohio, September 3, 1846, and passed to her reward November 28, 1919, being 73 years, 2 months and 25 days old at the time of her death. She came to Iowa when a small child, her mother dying when she was but 6 years of age. She was married to D. L. Thompson, April 9, 1865. To this union 10 children were born, five of whom have preceded her to the better land. The five children who survive are Mrs. Vena Wireman and Mrs. May Scalf of Cantril, Mrs. Carrie Harbin and Mrs. Alice Kittle of Milton, and Mrs. Alta Drummond of Memphis, Mo. Eighteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive her. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Lydia A. Thorne of Capa, S. D., and the following half-sisters: Mrs. Wm. McManis, Mrs. Jasper McManis, Mrs. Sam Harbin and Mrs. Robert Corrick. She first united with the Baptist church at Milton and on moving to Cantril united with the Christian church almost 40 years ago, and hasever since been a consistent member, being faithful at all its services. She will be missed in her accustomed place in the church, and by her neighbors and friends, but most of all by the husband who has traveled life's pathway with her for almost 55 years.

The funeral services were from the Christian church in Cantril, November 30, 1919, conducted by Rev. L. B. Brown, after which the mortal remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Cantril cemetery to await the great resurrection.
