Death Claims Beautiful Child
“It must be sweet, in childhood, to give back,
The spirit to the Maker; ere the heart
Has grown familiar with the path of sin,
And sown to garner up the bitter fruits.”[Wallace Edward Sanford was born December 5, 1899, and died February 25, 1901, aged one year, two months and twenty days. He was the younger child of Charles E. and Mary E. Sanford, and an unusually bright child, whose untimely departure is a sad blow to the parents and many friends.]
“Morning spread over earth her rosy wings,
And that was sufferer, cold and Ivory pale,
Lay on his couch asleep. The gentle air
Came through the open window, freighted with
The savory odors of the early spring:
He breathed it not; the laugh of passers-by
Jarred like a discord in some mournful tune,
But wakened not his slumber. He was dead.”The funeral services occurred at the home of the child’s grandfather, W. E. Smith, yesterday at 10 o’clock conducted by Rev. J. L. Ayrault, after which burial took place in the Bonaparte cemetery.
