Services Thursday For M.W. Nelson
83 Year Old Flu Victim Dies at Birmingham; Is Survived by Wife and 7 Children.
Funeral services for Meldon W. Nelson, 83, will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Catcott funeral home in Birmingham in charge of the Rev. H.C. Irvine.
Music will be by Mrs. Craig Miller and Mrs. Lawrence Heiden accompanied by Mrs. Lee Dustin at the piano. Bearers are Seth Nelson, Clyde Nelson, Earl Scott, Kelly Gilbert, Claude Musser and Sherman Unphrey.
Mr. Nelson died at his farm home near Birmingham at 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon following a short illness with influenza. He was a native of Van Buren county.
He was married December 16, 1885, to Miss Anna E. Anderson, who survives. To the union ten children were born. Two infant daughters and one son preceded him in death.
Survivors include four sons, George I. Nelson, Ben W. Nelson and Sylvester Nelson of Birmingham and Allen B. Nelson of Fairfield; three daughters, Mrs. Rosetta Edwards of Fairfield, Miss Bea Nelson of Ottumwa and Miss Annetta Nelson at home, eight grandchildren and two sisters.
