Newton Jasper Brumley, son of John N. Brumley and Lucretia Downing Brumley, was born near Milton, Iowa, November 3, 1861. He passed away at his home near Milton, May 10, 1934, at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 7 days, the last of a family of eight children.
On Christmas Day, 1893, he was united in marriage to Angeline M. Bell. They went to housekeeping on the farm southwest of Milton and their married life has been spent in the immediate vicinity, except two and one-half years, when the lived in Milton.
To them were born four children, two of whom died in infancy. He is survived by his widow; a daughter, Mary Jane Brumley, of Washington, D.C.; and a son, Ambrose N. Brumley, who resides on the home farm; and also two grandchildren, Mary Bell and Suzanna, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Brumley.
He was a member of the Christian church. For years he was an active Mason, a member of Aurora Lodge No. 50, Milton, Iowa, and also of Zarepath Consistory and Shrine at Davenport.
Having spent all his years in this community, he has a large circle of friends. He served the community faithfully and efficiently, without thought of profit to himself.
For many months he was a sufferer, but kept up until the past few weeks. It was impossible to cure the dread disease and he passed on.
He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and a large circle of friends.
