Mrs. Harriett Sheets
Harriett Lucinda, daughter of William and Mary Hurst, was born in Weston, West Virginia, Oct. 28, 1853 and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.J. Linn, of Mt. Sterling, Iowa, April 15, 1935, at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 17 days.
On May 8, 1870, she was united in marriage to B.F. Sheets. To this union were born four sons, Henry E., of Mt. Sterling, Iowa; Chas. W., of Keosauqua, Iowa; Elsie F., of Milton, and A. Harlan, of St. Joseph, Mo.; four daughters, Ruie Mounce, of Keosauqua, Iowa; Anna Linn, of Mt. Sterling; Edith Myers, of Keosauqua, Iowa, and Elizabeth, who died in infancy. One step-daughter also deceased.
She united with the Methodist church in young womanhood. She transferred her membership to the Keosauqua Methodist church in 1921 where she remained a faithful member to the end. She attended the church services regularly when health permitted. During the last few years she has been unable to attend the services of the church, but her heart was in the work even though absent many times in body. She was a sincere Christian woman, devoted to her home, her family and church and her God.
Most of her life has been spent in Van Buren county except 17 years in Memphis, Mo. Her husband passed away 22 years ago.
Besides her sons and daughters, she is survived by two half-brothers, Emery Alexander, of Mt. Sterling and Grant Alexander, of Oklahoma; one sister, Mrs. Florence Donoho, of Mt. Sterling; sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren, other relatives, neighbors and friends.
Funeral services were held from the funeral home Thursday afternoon, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. in charge of Rev. M.E. Hayes. Interment was at Memphis, Mo.
