Virgil Haganman

WAPELLO, Iowa - Virgil LaVerne Haganman, 68, Wapello, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the Mercy Hospital, lowa City.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. Tim Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be at Parsons Cemetery.

Visitations are 2-7 p.m. today and family will be present 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at the funeral home. A memorial has been established for a scholarship fund at Wapello High School and for the Wapello Rescue Unit.

Mr. Haganman was born Dec. 12, 1935, in Swedesburg, the son of Robert and Eva Lee Haganman. He married Margery Ehrlich May 31, 1959, in Fairfield.

He graduated from Birmingham High School. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He attended Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College and received a bachelor of science degree in education and later completed a master's degree in industrial education.

He taught for 30 years at Wapello Community School District teaching Power Mechanics, Industrial Arts, Driver's Education and Junior High Social Studies and English. After his retirement in 1991 he owned and operated Haganman Garage.

He was a member of the ISEA and NEA and Driver's Education Association. He had served on the Wapello School Board for a three-year term.

He enjoyed auto mechanics and also playing cards; however, most important to him was his family especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dr. Mark Haganman and wife Nancy of Osage and Dr. Chris Haganman and wife Dr. Kari Haganman of Solon; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Matt, Katie, Jenna, Jordan, Kirk and Luke; two brothers, George Haganman of Mount Pleasant and Roger Haganman and wife Janet of Stockport; nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Doris; and three infant siblings.
