Anna Sparks
Anna Sparks was born on a farm north of Cantril, in Van Buren county, Iowa, August 8, 1849. She was the daughter of Peter C. and Hester Smith, who emigrated from Pennsylvania to Iowa.
During the early life of the deceased the family moved to Clark county, Mo. and later returned to Iowa where they made their home on a farm at the old town of Niles in Van Buren county.
There Anna was united in marriage to William Sparks on Dec. 31, 1873. To this union there was born one child, a son, James Otho Sparks, who survives with his wife.
She became a Christian in early life and united with the Methodist church at Cantril. She continued in the faith and in her church relationship at various places where she lived to the time of her passing. Of her own family only on sister, Mrs. Lou Knox, of Cantril survives.
"Aunt Ann" as she was familiarly called by friends, was of a sunny disposition, bearing her years of invalidism with cheerfulness. During the last three years, she has been confined to her couch and was tenderly cared for by her daughter-in-law, Iona.
Mrs. Sparks will be greatly missed in the home and community where she lived. She leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn her passing.
The funeral services were held at the Funeral Home in Keosauqua, conducted by the Rev. Hayes of the Methodist church. Burial was at Kahoka, Mo., by the side of her hasband.
The pallbearers were six nephews, James P. Starr, W.P. Starr, J.A. Smith, A.R. Smith, A.R. Delaney, H.L. McLeland, and A.G. Lazenby.
