Mrs. Katherine E. Lane
Katherine Elizabeth Snare, eldest child of George and Agnes Snare, were born in Logan county, Ohio, August 23, 1843 and departed this life, May 18, 1934, at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 25 days.
At the age of six years, she came with her parents to Iowa and lived, with the exception of a few years during which she resided in Missouri, she spent her entire life in this state. She moved to a farm near Mt. Sterling in the early sixties. She attended school a few years in Keosauqua and taught for two years.
While in Keosauqua, she met a young Civil War soldier, A.H. Lane. They were united in marriage, October 29, 1866. Mr. and Mrs. Lane lived in Davis and Van Buren counties most of their lives. They moved to the Center chapel neighborhood in 1881 and to Keosauqua in 1904 to the home where Mrs. Lane passed away.
To this union were born nine children, six daughters and three sons, and six of the children survive: Edgar and Estella Wright, who lived with their mother and cared for her in her last days; Alvis, of Seattle, Wash.; George, of Harworth, N.J.; Ora DeFord, of Cantril and Lena Bennett, of Morrowville, Kas. Agnes Snider, Lottie and Anna preceded their mother in death. Mr. Lane likewise preceded Mrs. Lane in death, having died 27 years ago.
In early girlhood, she gave her heart to Christ and always lived a consistent Christian life. She was a loving, devoted wife and mother.
Besides her children, eleven grandchildren survive, eleven great grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, May 20, at the home. Will Drewlow, Dubuque, was in charge. The Rev. M.E. Hayes assisted. Burial was made in Purdom cemetery.
