At Salem, Iowa, last Saturday morning, June 9, 1900, occurred[sic] the death of Harry Packer, oldest son of J.L. and Mary Packer, after a brief illness of ten days, with rheumatic fever. Deceased was born in Salem July 25, 1884, and was therefore but 15 years, 10 months and 14 days old when overtaken by the Grim Reaper.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Drew, of the Congregational church, assisted by Rev. Carson, of the M.E. church, and the remains were reposed in the Friends’ Cemetery. Six young men, cousins of the departed boy acted as pallbearers.
