Augustine S. Perkins died on Oct. 28th, 1892, at his home near Utica, Van Buren Co. Iowa. He was born Nov. 11, 1824 in Shelby county Ken. His parents removed to Ind. And purchased a farm in Ripley county where they lived until the father's death in 1845. Augustine was married to his present widow March 15, 1840 and moved to Iowa. There were five sons and two daughters born to them. Five of them with their mother still survive, with fourteen grand children to mourn his departure. His son Charles and daughter Martha having preceded him to the land beyond. His brothers and only sister all live in Ind. except one brother who resides in Des Moines and was present at the funeral services which took place from the Utica M. E. church conducted by the pastor R. Breeden. Mr. Perkins was held in high esteem by his neighbors as was demonstrated by the fact that so large a concourse of people attended upon the funeral occasion. About ninety vehicles were in the funeral train. The death was very sudden and without warning.
Mr. Perkins was once a member of the Baptist church but about twelve years ago withdrew and has since that time considered deeds of charity and acts of kindness to his neighbors to be his highest duty to man and service to God. The relatives have the sympathy of their many friends and neighbors in their bereavment.
