Silas M. Thompson

Silas Madison Thompson, son of Charles M. and Sarah J. Thompson, was born near Libertyville, Jefferson county, Iowa, Sept. 13, 1857, and died at his home in Birmingham, Iowa, April 16, 1935 aged 77 years, 7 months and 3 days.

After attending the local school in Liberty township he was a student at the Birmingham Academy and the Commercial College at Oskaloosa. For eight years he was a teacher in the rural school, and for one years in the commercial college. Later he spent ten years teaching in the West Returning to Iowa he engaged in farming until his retirement to Birmingham.

He was married June 5, 1892 to Miss Estella Thompson. Six children were given to them, one son, Earle, dying in infancy. The others are, Royce C., of Arispe, Iowa; Cloyd R., of Shannon City, Iowa; Merril D., of Afton, Iowa; Doyle E. and Orville D., of Nebraska City, Neb.

Mr. Thompson also leaves three brothers, Walter of Sumner, Iowa; Simon of Hampton, Iowa, and Clarke, of Garner, Iowa. There are fifteen grandchildren in the family besides a large number of nephews. and nieces.

Mr. Thompson made a confession of faith in the Christian church in Fairfield in early youth.

Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian church of Birmingham, April 19 by the Pastor Howard C. Irvine.
