Mrs. Margaret Dick.
Margaret, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles McDonald was born in Quincy, Ill., December 25, 1840, and moved with her parents to Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, Iowa, in 1848, this county having been her place of residence continuously since that time.
Sept. 10, 1861, she was married to Mr. James Dick. They lived for a while in Cedar township, finally moving to the old homestead in Harrisburg where her brother, Robert McDonald, now lives. Her husband was killed in a runaway accident seven years ago, and one son, Prof. Wm. Dick, is deceased. Four sons, Charles, Robert, Archie, and Sam, and two daughters, Misses Mary and Ella, survive her and reside in the same neighborhood. She also leaves three brothers, Archie McDonald of Bonaparte, Charles McDonald of Council Bluffs, and Robert McDonald of Harrisburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Mattie McDonald and Mrs. Ella Rau? of Mason City.
She was a member of the M. E. church at Cottonwood, having been a member since its organization. Her quiet, refined manner and her kindness of heart won for her many friends.
Funeral services were he’d at the home Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Fix of Hillsboro, and the remains were interred in the Bales cemetery. She had been ill but a few days with grip and was not thought to be in a dangerous condition, although her health had been poor for several years. She was 67 years, 1 month, and 10 days old, almost sixty years of of which were spent in this county where she has a host of friends who extend sincerest sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
