Mr. and Mrs. S. Hawk
Solomon Hawk was born near Cleveland, Ohio, July 11, 1835, and departed this life Jan. 31, 1913, at the age of 7_? Years, 6 months and 20 days. When about 17 years old he came to Iowa with his mother, the father having died in Ohio.
About a year later he was married to Miss Margaret Ann Miller and to this union were born 12 children; Anna, Mary, Perry, Jasper, Jennie, and Albert all of whom preceded them to the great beyond and William, John, Martha, Frank, Fannie, and James remain to mourn the loss of their aged parents, the mother's departure being only two days later than the father.
She too was born near Cleveland, Ohio, in the year 1836, and was at the time of her death 76 years, 8 months and 14 days of age. When a small child she came with her parents to Iowa and settled near Vernon where she grew to womanhood. Mrs. Hawk suffered a slight stroke of paralysis five years ago and had never regained her former health. Her last sickness lasted over five weeks bearing her suffering with much patience. The husband was heard to say "poor old mother she has to suffer so long and I may be first to go." No one thought much of what he said at the time as he was to all appearances in his usual health.
Just a day or two later he was found dead in the barn where he had gone about 15 minutes before to get eggs, death was due, no doubt, to heart failure.
