DEATH OF HON. W. R. WHERRY

Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1915, Hon. W. R. Wherry died at Los Angeles, California. Mr. Wherry was a lawyer of extended learning and one of the good men that has blessed Van Buren county as a citizen. He was born in Pennsylvania June 12, 1854, graduated at Princeton College, New Jersey, in 1874, and came to Keosauqua, Iowa, in 1876, where he commenced the study of law in the office of Lea & Beaman. Later Mr. Beaman moved away and the law firm was continued here as Lea & Wherry. In 1884 W. M. Walker became a member of the firm, which took the title of Lea, Wherry & Walker and following Mr. Lea's death the firm was known as Wherry & Walker, remaining such until Mr. Wherry moved to California in 1906. Some years previous to his removal to California he was united in marriage with Miss Ida Eno of Keosauqua, who, with one daughter, survives. For several years previous to his death Mr. Wherry's health had steadily declined but the end came peacefully at the time named. He was a Christian gentleman. The writer knew him intimately and we can truly pay tribute in these words to his goodness. Along with his many friends we mourn his death but we are glad that he lived. He was buried at Los Angles [sic], California, which was his home after leaving Keosauqua.
