OBITUARY OF JOHN M. THOMAS

John M. Thomas was born the 10th of February, 1841, in Indiana, and passed away this life August 6, 1926, at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 27 days. At the age of 23 he enlisted in Co. E, 15th regiment of Iowa Infantry and served during the war. On the 24th of July, 1865, he received his honorable discharge at Louisville, Ky. That same year he came to Iowa.

In 1861 he was married to Tobitha [sic] Ellis, May 23. To this union were born six children, five sons and a daughter. Three sons William of Keosauqua, Elias of Reemsville, Kan., Lewis of Keosauqua, and the daughter Mrs. C. W. Githens of Colorado Springs, survive. His wife died July 11, 1893. Two sons died several [rest is missing]

NOTE: There is another Tobitha (Tabitha?) Ellis [died in 1930's?] who married Riley B. Thomas. Both of their obituaries are posted elsewhere on this forum.
