ALEXANDER MATHESON

Alexander, third child of Dongald and Catherine McKenzie Matheson, was born near Inverness, Invernesshire, Scottland [sic], January 12, 1838, and passed away at his home in Keosauqua, Iowa, December 12, 1921, his age being 83 years and 11 months. He came to Canada with his parents when 11 years old. From there he came to the United States when 21 years old, locating in Illinois, where, near Carlinville, on April 30, 1863, he was united in marriage to Jane E. Stevenson. They moved to Marion county, Iowa, in 1865, and to Van Buren county, Iowa, in 1872, where they resided on their farm in Des Moines township, and where they lived for forty years. From there they came to Keosauqua some years ago. He leaves to mourn an aged wife, five children, namely: John K., George A., Sarah C., now Mrs. Oliver Wolfe, Grant U., and Edith, one son Albert dying in infancy; also two sisters, living in Canada, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
