Velda Nadine Zollars, 88, of Ottumwa formerly of Keosauqua passed away at 4:20 A.M. Monday May 26, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society of Ottumwa. She was born February 8, 1926 to George W. and Julia Nixion Gares at Anson, MO and married Cecil F. Zollars September 1, 1946 at Mt. Sterling Methodist Church at Mt. Sterling.

Surviving are three daughters, Heather Lea (Val) Czomba of Uniontown, OH, Cynthia Sue (Jack) Bergman of St. Francisville, LA and Cecile Ann (Mike) Van Winkle of Ottumwa, a granddaughter, Michelle (Bill) DeVore of Scio, OH, five grandsons, Bryan (Jennifer) Ball of Chester, NJ, Bill (Amy) Winn of Ottumwa, Aaron Ball of West Bountiful, UT Clay (Amber) Winn of Ottumwa and Jacob Ball of Grand Ledge, MI, four great-granddaughters, Alexis Winn, Macey DeVore, Lindsey Winn and Carley Winn, two great-grandsons, Billy DeVore and Chale Winn, a sister, Lola Gares of Kahoka, MO, three brothers Harold (Celesta) Gares of Kahoka, MO, Clifford (Lola) Gares of Kahoka, MO and Hilbert (Laneta) Gares of Monroe City, MO, a sister-in-law, Helen Zollars of Jefferson, IA, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents Velda was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Cecil Czomba.

She was a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church and Beer Barker American Legion Auxiliary Post #113 of Keosauqua. Velda worked for two years at Shaffer Pen Co in Ft. Madison and three years at Van Buren School Lunch Room. She loved spending time with her family and made many quilts for family members.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday May 29, 2014 at Pedick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Rev. Mark Young Officiating. Visitation will open at 3 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home with family present from 5-7 P.M. Memorials to Lebanon United Methodist Church, Beer Barker American Legion Auxiliary or Good Samaritan Society of Ottumwa may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 30 Kingsley Dr., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
