Charles William Easter, 84, of Bonaparte, died at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005 at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
Born Aug. 3, 1921, in Bonaparte, he was the son of James M. and Leta Earhart Easter. On Aug. 15, 1942, he married Marjorie Troutman in Edina, Mo.
Mr. Easter worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant from 1941 to 1942 and then from 1950 to 1984. After retiring from IAAP, he operated a shop in Bentonsport where he sold his wood works and later owned and operated a shop in Bonaparte.
He was a graduate of the Bonaparte High School and a World War II Navy veteran. He served on various community projects and committees. He was a long-term councilman on the Bonaparte City Council and served on the Harmony School Board. He was a 60-year member of the Bonaparte American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and known throughout the community for his numerous hand woodcarvings and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; one son, James Michael Easter of Donnellson; one daughter, Terri Delker of Fairfield; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Roberta Roberts of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one grandson, three brothers, and two sisters.Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Farmington, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Easter will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Rekward officiating. His body will be cremated following the service. A graveside memorial service with full military rites by the Bonaparte American Legion will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Bonaparte Cemetery.
