JOHNSTON SERVICES HELD LAST WEEK AT MT. ZION

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie I. Johnston were held Tuesday of last week at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church with the Rev. George Kerr officiating. The pall bearers were Tom Johnston, Pitt Johnston, Forrest Johnston, Guernsey Johnston, F. George Buckles and George Buckles.

Interment was in the Forbes cemetery.

Music for the service was given by Ora Williams, Joe Barker, Glenn Williams and Ezra Williams, with Mrs. Florence Campbell as pianist.

Minnie Isabelle Johnston, the daughter of William and Mary Wiley, was born in Lee County near Montrose Nov. 8, 1863.

While she was still a small child, the family moved to a farm near Birmingham where she lived until her marriage. She attended rural schools and Wolfe’s Academy.

On March 24, 1886, she was married to William N. Johnston. She was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1904, a daughter, Zenia, and a son, Lee. The surviving children are Mrs. Madge Buckles of San Gabriel, Calif., Tom F. of Omaha; W. Pitt of Birmingham; Guernsey G. of Ottumwa; J. Bryan of Iowa City and Forrest W. of Ft. Madison. She also had several grandchildren.

Until the beginning of her last illness in 1943, Mrs. Johnston lived a busy and useful life. She was widely known for her neighborliness and good deeds. She was a devout believer in her faith, being a member of the United Presbyterian church. She spent her entire life in Van Buren county with the exception of the last three years.
