As the sun was sinking in the west Sunday afternoon, leaving only pleasant recollections of a beautiful day just passed, the spirit departed from the body of Mrs. Mary Mehl, whose life also was beautiful and whose sun had shone for eighty years, leaving fond remembrances and recollections of a life well spent. Deceased had been a member of the home of P. J. Entler since the demise of her husband about twelve years ago. Grandma Mehl had been ill about three months, and all that medical skill and kind and loving hands could do was cheerfully given the sufferer, but all to no avail, for He who rules the universe has destined otherwise and called grandma to her everlasting home. Mrs. Mary Mehl, nee Bechtold, was born July 23, 1819, in Romrod, near Alsfeld, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. In 1836 she came to this country and settled at Marietta, Ohio. Here, on November 21, 1838, she was united in marriage to John Mehl. Five children blessed this union, namely, Elizabeth Mehl, Mrs. Peter Jericho, George and John Mehl and Mrs. P. J. Entler. All of these with the exception of Mrs. Entler have passed to the beyond. Two sisters, Mrs. Anna Seim, of this city, and Mrs. Catherine Deiss, of Tries and der Lumda, Germany; three grandchildren, J. W. Entler, of this city; Charles Jericho, of Galesburg; Ernest Mehl, of Mount Pleasant, and one great-granddaughter, Miss Marie Mehl, of Mount Pleasant, survive to mourn her loss. Deceased was a member of the Lutheran church. The funeral survices [sic] were held at the residence of P. J. Entler Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock, Rev. H. S. Beach, of the Presbyterian church of this city, officiating. The remains found a last resting place beside those of her husband in the city cemetery. The relatives and friends have the sympathy of the entire community in their great bereavement.
