Obituary
Christian Miller was born April 6th, 1931 in West Ontario, New Hamburg, Canada. He came to Iowa, March 1st, 1854 and on December 19th, of the same year he was united in marriage with Frances Layman. They commenced life together locating in the town of Milton, where they have always lived, except a few years when they lived on their farm in Davis Co., Iowa. To this union were born eleven children, six girls and five boys; two girls having died in infancy, while four girls and five boys are left to mourn the loss of a kind father, and to care for the feeble old mother. He united with the M.E. Church during the pastorate of Bro. B. M. Boydson in the winter of 1894. Since that time he has been a regular attendant of the church which he loved, and was always glad and willing to assist with his worldly means, and in any other way that he could. His was a beautiful life here on earth, and he passed away in the same beautiful manner in which he lived, peacefully, fully prepared to stand before the Judge of the quick and the dead, to answer for the deeds done in the body while here upon earth. Such a life is surely an excellent example for those left behind, and the aged companion and all the children can be consoled with knowing that if they live the life that Christ wants them to, that in the Great Beyond they may all be united as one unbroken family. Uncle Chris, as he was commonly called, was of sturdy German descent, industrious and frugal, at one time owning a large amount of property, this however in later years was sold and divided among the children, as he knew the end was not far distant. The funeral was held from the home Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. B. G. Hanhius after which the remains were laid to rest in the Sunnyside Cemetery, thus another good man has gone. His presence in the home and community will be greatly missed. He was always on the side of right, ever helping the needy and afflicted, kind and generous to all, believing that it was right to do right and “Do unto others as you would others do unto you.”
