Washington- George W. Shelman, 71, died Friday evening at the Osteopathic hospital at Kirksville, Mo.
He was born March 18, 1881 at Stockport, the son of Miles L. and Mary Chezum Shelman. He was reared and educated in Stockport. On Sept. 19, 1906, he married Ethel Davidson of Hillsboro.
Mr. Shelman was a well-known hog buyer in the Hillsboro-Stockport area from 1902 to 1917. The remainder of his life was spent in Washington and Henry counties.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Miles D. Shelman of Winfield; John O. Shelman of Washington; Gordon Shelman of Brighton and Merle W. Shelman of Washington; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Wikoff and Mrs. Lane Morgan, both of Brighton; four sisters, Mrs. Bryant Dow of Keosauqua; Mrs. Mae Johnson, Stockport; Mrs. Jennie Donald of Stockport; and Mrs. Bernice Hyatt of Keosauqua. Twelve grand-children also survive.
Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Home in Washington at 2 p.m. Monday. Interment will be at Elm Grove cemetery in Washington.
[Although I do have Shelmans in some collateral lines, I am unable at this time to place this George Shelman with any of those families.]
