Obituary of Elizabeth Thero

Elizabeth Thero was born July 6, 1862 in Farmington, Iowa. She was the daughter of Julia and Charles Kessler. Mrs. Thero passed away Saturday night, April 18, 1936 at the age of 73.

She attended the Farmington schools and was united in marriage to William F. Thero, Sept. 20, 1881. To this union were born three children, W.E. Thero, Eskridge, Kansas; H.O. Thero, Farmington, Iowa; and Edythe Sloan, San Francisco, Calif.

Mrs. Thero, for many years, was a faithful and tireless worker in the P.E.O. and Eastern Stars. She was affiliated with no church, but was well known and well liked by those who knew her. She had been ill for some time and was cared for by her devoted daughter, son, and sister in her Farmington home. She is preceded in death by one brother.

She leaves to mourn her passing her three children, W.E. Thero, H O Thero and Eythe Sloan, two brothers, one sister, five grandchildren, one great grandchild and many friends.

The funeral service was held in the Thero home on Monday, April 20, 1936 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. M.R. Rogers, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Farmington. A brief message, "Peace" was delivered, using John 14:1-6, for the Scripture reading. Casket Bearers were Wm. Singleton Sr., W.H. Knott, Wm. Flood, J.W. Woodworth, A.C. Freed and George Ketcham.

Burial was in the Farmington cemetery.

Mrs. Thero resided her all her life. She possessed sterling character, the keynote of which was sincerity. She was sincere in her attitude toward human affairs and sincere in all she said and did.

She was one of those rare souls who is equable-never fickle nor changeable. If she were your friend today, she would be your friend tomorrow and next year.

Thoroughness was a trait woven into her daily life. Careful and painstaking, she never slighted anything. She did beautiful needlework, the fineness of which was reavealed in "both the unseen and the seen."

Becoming a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood soon after the local chapter was organized, and an early member of Mizpah Chapter, No. 24, O.E.S. She was, until late years, faithful in attendance and in the preformance of her duties, filling the highest offices in each with credit.

She was an unusually fine woman and attended stritly to her own business.

Although she suffered with illness, she remained brave, patient and cheerful to the end. The loving care of her devoted daughter sons, and sister was bestowed upon her Her passing is a loss to friends and to the home circle.
