Charles Emmett Strah

Charles Emmett Strah was born in a log cabin near Willits Station, Iowa, February 22, 1885 and passed away at the home of his son in Keosauqua, March 7, 1956 at the age of 71 years and 13 days.

He was the youngest of 3 sons born to John and Frances Ruark Strah. He attended school at Flat Rock and later State Teachers College at Kirksville, Missouri. At the age of 16 he taught school in Missouri.

On Dec. 22, 1915 he was united in marriage to Hazel Gordon of Keosauqua, Iowa. To this union was born one son.

For several years Charlie, as he was know to all, lived on a farm near Mt. Sterling and was salso Sec. of the Farm Mutual Ins. Asso. until health forced him to retire. For the past 3 years he has lived in Farmington, Iowa, where he and his wife had an interest in a nursing home.

He loved children very much and was never happier than when surrounded by his nieces and nephews and later his four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and two brothers, Miner and John Strah. Survived by his wife, Hazel, one son Robert, daughter-in-law Mildred, and four grandchildren, cousins an many neices and nephews.

God saw the road was getting rough,
The hills were hard to clim.
He gently closed his loving eyes,
And whispered, "Peace be thine."
His weary hours, his days of pain,
His wakeful nights are past,
A loved one has forever gone.
He has found sweet rest at last.

Funeral services were held in Burnett-Catcott Funeral Home, Keosauqua, Friday afternoon with Rev. Donald Arthur officiating. Burial was in the Center Chapel Cemetery.
