Mrs. James Talbott

Allie Mae House was born January 10, 1869 in northeast Clark County, Mo., daughter of James L. House and Emily V. (Weekly) House and passed away at her home in Kahoka, Mo., Tuesday, July 22, 1958 at 12:15 p.m. at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 12 days.

On September 26, 1888 she was united in marriage to James H. Talbott and to this union one daughter, Clara E., was born, now Mrs. J.B. Gutting of Kahoka.

She attended the Farmington, Iowa public school and also of Clark county, Mo. Taught for 25 years in the county as follows: Jeff Davis, later known as Grover College, Jordan, Highland, McCabe, and had charge of the Primary department of the Revere Public School for four years and of the Primary department of Alexandria public school for three years.

Her grandparents on her mother's side were Stephen G. and Lydia Varner Weekly, natives of Ohio and later pioneer settlers of north Clark county, near Farmington, Iowa. The Weekly farm is located near the State line of Iowa and Missouri. Their home was located in Clark county and their barn was in Van Buren county, Ia., the state line ran between their house and barn where they lived for some sixty years. In their declining years they moved to Farmington where they died at advanced ages.

Allie Mae House was converted in a protracted meeting at the Anson church in the early eighties held by Reverends B.F. Warner, of the Methodist Episcopal church and A.W. Wiggins, a Congregational minister. She united with the Methodist and ever since has lived a devout Christian life. For four years while she and husband had charge of the Revere Public School, she was organist at the Methodist.

Mr. Talbott was also converted at the same meeting above mentioned. Had Mrs. Talbott lived until September 26 of this years, they would have been married 70 years.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 40 of Kahoka for a number of years.

She is survived by her aged companion and daughter, Mrs. J.B. Gutting, of Kahoka, one granddaughter, Mrs. Arch Cloud and three great-grandchildren of Leavenworth, Kansas, two brothers, Roy House, of Palmyra, Mo., Chas. House of Phoenix, Ariz., besides many other relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Kahoka Methodist church, Thursday, July 24 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. G.S. Thistlethwaite officiating and the Rev. Richard S. Golden assisting. Burial was in Kahoka cemetery.

Pallbearers were Worthy Wallingford, Chas. Wallingford, Volney Therme, Manford Therme, Emerson Calvert and Ernest Talbott.

Music was by Mrs. Creva Gutting, soloist accompanied by Mrs. Linda Bolin at the organ. 7-25
