Abraham Lincoln Ross

Abraham Lincoln Ross, son of Samuel and Mary Margaret Ross was born at Mt. Sterling, Iowa October 20, 1864 and departed this life, June 19, 1942 in the Sacred Heart hospital in Fort Madison, where he had been a patient the past two weeks, and underwent an operation Tuesday for an illness of which he seldom expressed his agony. He was 77 years, 7 months and 29 days old.

The early part of his life was spent in Van Buren County, Iowa, around Mt. Sterling and in the vicinity of Anson, Mo. On July 2, 1898 he volunteered and was enrolled in Co. C, 1st Battalion Nevada Infantry at Reno, Nevada. He was advanced to the rank of Corporal. On October 29, 1898 he was honorably discharged.

Mr. Ross never married, living a very quiet life of which the greater part was spent in California. His occupation was superintendent of a lumber industry.

The last five years he spent the summer months with his only sister in Nauvoo, Ill.

He was a member of the Eagles lodge and a member of the United Spanish
War Veterans.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Nellie Story, Nauvoo, Ill.; two brothers, C. J. Ross, Los Angeles, Calif., and F. M. Ross, Holden, Mo., and several nieces and nephews. His parents and a brother, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Anson church with the Rev. John S. Ellis officiating. Interment was in the Anson cemetery.
