GLENN E. SATTERLY

Glenn E. Satterly was born on the old home farm in Lee County on August 19, 1918 and passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines May 9, 1950 at the age of 31 years. He spent his early youth on the farm on which he was born and later moved to Farmington. At the age of 13 he joined the Methodist Church and was a member at the time of his death. He graduated from Farmington High School May, 1936. In March 1942 he entered the U. S. Army and received a Medical discharge Dec. 1944. Two months later he enrolled at the State University of Iowa and graduated Feb. 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Following his graduation hr found employment in Albuquerque, New Mex., but failing health forced him to abandon his work. He returned to Farmington, became an active worker in community and American Legion affairs. He was a member of the Mt. Moriah Lodge No, 27, the Richardson-Anthony Post No 231, Sigma Phi Epsilon and the “40 and 8”. At the time of his death he was Adjutant of Richardson-Anthony Post.

Skipper was a sort of paradox. He had a distinctly local flavor and yet he was cosmopolitan in thought. He was as aware in international intrigue and politics and economics as he was of Legion Field finances. In worldly goods, Skip accumulated little. But in a larger sense, he was a wealthy man. He was rich with friends, friendship, and steeped in good will to his fellowmen --- a veritable millionaire. Were it not for his imperfect physical environment --- his disease ridden body --- perhaps there could have been no limit to his rise to eminence.

Those surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Satterly, three brothers, Willard of Keokuk, Robert in Farmington, and Dale at Memphis, Missouri, and three sisters, Marjorie in Farmington, Virginia in Clifton, New Jersey, and Mina Lou of Farmington and a community of friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 11, from the Methodist church at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Fay Marriott. Interment in Greenglade cemetery.
