SOPHIA PERKINS

Sophia Alexander, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Alexander, was born at Moberly, Mo., in slavery and came to Iowa at the close of the Civil War. She passed away near Farmington, Iowa t 1:15 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 1947. On August 10, 1947, she fell and fractured her hip from which she never recovered.

On April 26, 1894, she was united in marriage to William Perkins - who preceded her in death, along with her parents, six brothers and three sisters. Those surviving are three nephews and two nieces.

She united with the Croton Baptist Church many years ago. Six years ago when her health failed, she went to make her home with Miss Anna Perkins of Farmington, who tenderly cared for her to the end.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 25, 1947, at 2:00 p.m. in the Croton Baptist Church with burial in the Croton Cemetery. Rev. Henry Olsen, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Farmington, conducted the services.
