MRS. EMILY L. NEWBOLD

Mrs. Emily L. Newbold, 76, prominent Keosauqua business woman, died at her home here Sunday morning after a short illness.

She was born in Henry County August 30, 1875, the daughter of Joseph Corwin and Emily Joy Jones Whitaker. She received her education at the Howe Academy at Mt. Pleasant. She was married in 1900 to W. R. Newbold, who preceded her in death in 1946.

Mrs. Newbold was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 1907 and was associated with her husband in the law office there until his death and since that time has continued to work. She served for 8 years as prosecuting attorney for Van Buren County.

Survivors include 3 sons, Joseph W. of Keosauqua, Cyrus M. of Centerville, and W. B. Newbold, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama; 2 daughters, Miss Catherine Newbold of Albany, New York and Mrs. Harry D. Berg of Lansing, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Alco surviving are 2 brothers, Joseph Whitaker of Meade, Okla. and Bert Whitaker of Joplin, Mo.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Hattie Stafford of Carbondale, Ill. and Mrs. Minnie Wardell of New London.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Burton C. Bastuscheck in charge and burial was in the Purdom Cemetery.
