YOUNG MUSICIAN KILLE IN CRASH

Crow, Fairfield, Dies; 6 Others Injured.
(The Register's Iowa News Service.)

MOUNT PLEASANT, IA - William Crow, 16, son of Dr. and Mrs. I.N. Crow of Fairfield, Ia., was killed and six other persons were injured in the collision of two cars on a curve on Highway 34 about seven miles west of here Saturday afternoon.

According to Sheriff Manning Cline, Crow, a high school junior and outstanding musician, died a few minutes after the accident.

Others.

Riding with Crow were two other Fairfield high school students, James Jenness, and Chester Danielson. Jenness' father is a professor of mathematics and physics at Parsons college, Danielson's father is an auto dealer.

In the second car were Mr. and Mrs. Jess Phelps and Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Phelps, all residents of Kirksville, Mo., but living in a trailer camp at Mount Pleasant while employed at the Burlington Basket Co. at Burlington, IA.

In Hospital.

Both the Phelps couples and the two Fairfield youths were taken to a hospital in Mount Pleasant. The extent of their injuries was not determined immediately.

The Phelpses were en route home to Kirksville for the weekend at the time. The Fairfield party was headed east. The accident site is a short distance from the Skunk river bridge.

Crow, often a winner in state high school music contests the last several years, was a member of a cornet trio that took second place in a national music contest two years ago.

The accident victim also was the leader of a dance orchestra, "The Music Makers" that played each Saturday evening in the Fairfield armory. The dance was canceled following the tragedy. Jenness, a high school senior, was a member of the orchestra. Crow had the leading part in the junior class play to be given Friday and Danielson also had a part.

Dr. Crow is and eye, nose and throat doctor in Fairfield. Besides his parents, William is survived by a brother, Herbert, an aviation cadet, and a sister, Barbara, of Chicago, Ill.

Sheriff Cline was only a quarter-mile away from the collision when it happened, having been called to investigate an earlier accident on the same road in which Ralph Wilson of Jefferson county suffered slight injuries when his car went off the road and turned over three times.
