Joseph Kelley, son of Horton G. Kelley, brother of Ezra Kelley and Mrs. Ada Kehl, and husband of Inez Goodin Kelley, died at Spokane, Wash. last Friday.

Joe was always a clean man, respected by everyone. As a young man he was respected by every body, and everybody was friendly with him. In later years he has kept in touch with his Farmington friends through his very estimable wife.

He was a charter member and a chief of the old, now almost forgotten Massasoit Tribe of Red Men.

Joseph Patterson Kelley, was born northeast of Farmington October 5, 1863. Horton G. and Martha Slaughter Kelley were his parents.

In his youth, with his brother and sister he joined the Bethel Baptist church in the country. This church was, in the 80’s, consolidated with the First Baptist church of Farmington and his membership was transferred to town.

He attended the Farmington schools, while still living in the country and what is now Iowa State College at Ames. He specialized in the Dairy course.

After coming to town he became an active cheese maker, at Farmington’s first creamery. Associated with him in the creamery were his father and his brother Charles.

In 1896, he located at Queen City, Mo., and in 1900 he went to Guilford, Mont., where he homesteaded. April 10, 1918, he was married to Miss Inez L. Gooden, a very estimable Farmington young woman, and they began their life out on their Montana ranch. In 1920 they moved to Spokane, Wash., where he took up carpenter work and contracting.

His home was ever a happy one. Mr. and Mrs. Kelley maintained an active membership in the First Baptist church at Spokane.

He is survived by his wife; his sister Mrs. Ada Kehl, living northeast of Farmington, and two brothers, Byron C., who is engaged in the Dairy business in Allerton, Iowa and Ezra who resides in Farmington.

Burial was at Spokane.
