Charles H. Kelley

Charles H. Kelle6y, age 64, died suddenly, Tuesday morning. He was found sprawled on the floor. He usually arose about 7:30 and had dressed himself. Dr. L. A. Coffin was called and said he had been dead about thirty minutes. Mr. Kelley had been ailing for two or three years and was rapidly failing during the last three or four months.

The deceased was a son of Horton G. and Martha Slaughter Kelley. He began life as cheese maker in the old Farmington Creamery. In 1895 he joined his father and W. J. Behrens in the hardware firm of Kelley and Behrens, which later became Kelley and Neal, and after the death of his father, the Kelley Hardware Co. About seven or eight years ago he severed his connection with the hardware business and a little later associated himself with his two sons in the grocery business. He had been out of this about 3 months.

Charley Kelley spoke to everybody and everybody spoke to him. He was a friend to everybody and everybody was a friend to him. He was honest to a fault --- there was never another man in Farmington like him. He was always Charley Kelley, to everyone who ever knew him.

He was married to Miss Alma Hartrick October 2, 1901. They built for themselves a substantial home at the corner of Second and Walnut street. To this union was born three children Horton H., Charles Edward, and Dorothea all of whom grew to young manhood and womanhood and with their mother survive him.

He was Mayor of Farmington from 1908 to 1910 and served several years as councilman.

He is also survived by his three brothers, Byron G. of Allerton, Joe P. of Spokane, Wash., and Ezra S. of Farmington and one sister, Mrs. Ada Kehl, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the home this Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. ?. ?. Stevens of the M. E. church ______cut off______.
