DEATH OF WM. PHILIPS.

On Sunday night just at sundown came the sad word that Mr. William Philips, who lives about a mile south of Birmingham, and a former resident of this city, having been born and reared northeast of here, had passed away at the Jefferson County Hospital, where, on the Friday preceeding, he had been taken for an emergency operation for appendicitis, but, so we were informed the appendix had burst about two days previous and all hope had been given up for his recovery and he passed away as above stated. Mr. Philips had suffered several attacks in the nature of appendicitis in the past several years and on Tuesday of last week he suffered a similar attack.

Mr. Philips was a most splendid citizen; well liked and highly esteemed by everyone; he was a splendid husband, father and neighbor and will be universally mourned by all.

He was about 53 years of age.

The funeral services were held on last Wednesday afternoon and burial was had in the Spencer cemetery.
