Joe Huddleston
Joe Bill Huddleston, 33, Farmington, was killed Tuesday morning while cutting timber on a farm north Argyle on the Argyle-New Boston road. Sheriff H. R. “Toots” Delahoyde was called to the scene of the accident about 11:00 a.m., by “Woody” Douglas, a co-worker.
Delahoyde and Lee county Coroner Dr. F. L. DeWees went to the timber where they were met by Douglas who directed them to the body. According to the coroner, who examined the body on the spot, death was caused by a blow from a tree which Huddleston had been cutting.
The tree had apparently kicked back, striking the man in the upper portion of his body and possibly crushing his ribs and causing other internal injuries. He had walked some 50 feet before collapsing.
Douglas was not with Huddleston at the time of the accident. He had just driven up in their truck when he heard the scream from the victim in the back timber. While helping him walk to the truck, Huddleston asked for water and then collapsed, dead. The accident occurred about 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will be in Yellville, Arkansas.
