Lewis Taylor died on Sunday evening at 4 o’clock p.m., at his home near Big Mound February 19, 1899, after a painful illness of two weeks, at the age of 80 years and 10 months.

He died as he had lived, with the firm belief that he would meet his loved ones, in that home where change never come.

He was married twice, first to Eliza Street, Sept. 1, 1840, and to this union five children were born, one of which died in infancy. The oldest, Peter B. Taylor, died in Reno, Nevada, July 31, 1898. His second wife was Margaret Hampton, being married June 27, 1852. Five children were born to them, two children dying in infancy. The wife and six children are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mahaffy, at the home on Wednesday Feb. 23, his text being taken from the 23rd psalm; “Yea, though I walk through the valley of death I will fear no evil.” His favorite hymns were sung by the Hillsboro choir. They were “Meet me there” and “Some sweet day by and by.”
