Hattie Church

Hattie A. Church, 91, of rural Bonaparte, died at 8:37 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

Born Oct. 26, 1912, in Croton, she was the daughter of Joseph H. and Della Kirsch Cox. On June 24, 1937, she married Kenneth R. Church in Keokuk.

Mrs. Church taught Washington rural school in Lee County, worked at the U.S. Mint in Washington, D.C., and farmed with her husband north of Bonaparte.

She was a graduate of Bonaparte High School and attended Chillicothe, Mo., Business College. She was a member of Bonaparte United Church, United Women and Stockport Chapter No. 544, Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mollie Bentler of Bonaparte; one son, Glenn Church of Savage, Minn.; six grandchildren; and 16 great–grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother and one great–granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mrs. Church will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bonaparte United Church, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Bonaparte United Church and Bonaparte Cemetery.
