Chester H. Hootman

Chester Henry Hootman was born Sept. 18, 1868 near Mt. Zion, Iowa, and passed away March 2, 1936 aged 67 years, 6 months and 14 days.

Aug. 24, 1892 he was united in marriage to Fila Maxwell. To this union was born four children, Rex, Ervin and Lucille, who with their mother, preceded him in death, and Ira of Fairfield, Iowa.

On Feb. 23, 1921 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Addie Mort.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, one son, Ira, a stepson, Leo Mort of Milton, and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Maud Workman, of Trenton, Michigan; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Irona Ely, of Birmingham, and three brothers, William of Kilbourne; Howard of Birmingham, and Ray of Lancaster, Mo.; a number of nieces and nephews, and a hot of friends and neighbors.

Mr. Hootman has been connected with the Iowa State Highway Commission for the last 16 years, first as Highway Patrolman and since 1931 as foreman of the organization of the Iowa State Highway Commission at Keosauqua. Both those who worked under him and those to whom he was responsible testify to his fine sense of honor and his strong sterling worth. He took a very personal pride in his work.

Mr. Hootman confessed his faith in his Savior and united with the Presbyterian Church at Mt. Zion Feb. 5, 1905.

Funeral services were held at the home in charge of the Rev. and Mrs. E.L. Nickle. Interment was in the Birmingham cemetery.
