Stan Manning Dies In California
**Handwritten: Jan 1945

Former Keosauqua Business Man Is Survived By Wife, Daughter, Niece and Nephew.

Stanley W. Manning, former prominent Keosauqua businessman, died Monday morning, January 15, at his home Monrovia, Calif.

He was born in Keosauqua November 27, 1868, son of the late Edwin Manning, who laid out the town of Keosauqua. The latter was very prominent in southeastern Iowa and was the richest man in Van Buren county.

After the crash of the Manning bank in 1923, "Stan" moved to Douds, where he was employed by the late Henry Bussey. His wife and children had moved some time before to California for the health of their invalid son Brown, who died 14 years ago. About three years later he joined his family in California.

Friends in Keosauqua have not received notice of funeral arrangements. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burnett of Keosauqua, were in California last week and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Manning. At that time he had appeared to be in good health.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Margaret, who is a teacher in the Monrovia high school, and by Bates Manning and Mrs. Madeleine Gilchrist of of Keosauqua, a nephew and niece.
